I hear some people are complaining about the
number of President Goodluck Jonathan entourage to events?
Why don't we spend our time doing something else rather than
stressing ourselves on governance in Nigeria? If we do not
like what he is doing, let us get ready to vote him out when
the time comes. There is already too much stress trying to
manage ones home already. Most Nigerians learnt to be
'wasteful', if that is how you see it. We throw lavishing
parties at weddings, burials; congratulatory messages on the
pages of newspapers etc, yet we do not call these wasteful.
It is a cultural and normal, we all say.
Nigerians have, even before independence, been known to be
loud performers. Have we forgotten how the late Chief Okotie
Eboh made his 'triumphant entry' during the constitutional
conference in London? Think of the number of representatives
we took to London to demand for Independence. It is our
culture to overwhelm to opposition with our flamboyance.
Think about the extra yards of clothes we waste in making
our dresses, the Babanriga and the Agbada to mention a few.
Nigeria has the largest population in Africa, with people
shouting each day of being marginalized by the Federal
Government. Let us assume that the President in deciding to
sponsor a group of people to the world cup in South Africa
requests that four people represent each state. Nigeria
would have a contingent of not less than one hundred and
forty four representatives to ensure that no state cries of
being marginalized. Obviously if President Goodluck Jonathan
does not want to be accused of marginalizing some political
parties he would have to add over fifty people to his list.
What about the religious God fathers who would love to go
and pray for the footballers? Stop comparing Nigeria with
some small African or European country. If your name was on
the list will you complain? Please stop distracting the
President with trivial matters relating to representation at
events. In political events, locally and internationally you
show your strength in numbers. You have the right to vote
out any party at election time but before then leave Mr.
President to do their work. After all we gave him the
mandate.
